The Society was founded in Rome in 1974. The Society organizes a triennial International Congress on Twin Studies. "The most recent Congress was in Denmark in 2004. The 2007 Congress will be held in Ghent, Belgium in June 7-10, 2007. In between International Congresses, workshops and other meetings are organized. The Festival of Twins in Manila was first held in February 2004 (and is supported by Pro-life Philippines).
Natalie Palanca, grandmother of twin girls, is the driving force behind this festival. She has also established the local Association of Twins and Multiple Births (ATMB) to help families with multiple birth children. The festival gathers approximately 250 pairs of twins and multiples. No official site is currently available.
